George Lucas even went as far to say that former President George Bush is Darth Vader while Dick Cheney is the Emperor.

Then we had the Prequel Trilogy which was full of political subtext. This is similar to even the American Revolution in terms of guerrilla warfare. A technologically inferior army using the terrain to beat a behemoth of an enemy. In the Original Trilogy he explicitly stated the Rebel Alliance was like the Viet Cong while the Empire was the United States. Now most people do know that George Lucas did use Star Wars as a way to express his political viewpoints. If we were to compare this system to Star Wars, the Supreme Chancellor would be the President, The Senate would be Congress, and the courts would be the Supreme Court with individual planets each having regional control. Now in the United States the highest power of course is the Federal Government but the states are allowed lesser control with their own affairs as long as it doesn’t go against Federal Law. Overall, the goal of government is to craft policy for the benefit of the people through elected representatives. These three branches are held together by a system referred to as checks and balances where each branch has power over another so none of them hold complete control. The Executive Branch is tasked with enforcing the law while the Legislative creates the law and the Judicial interprets the law. The U.S Government is divided into three different branches those being the: Executive Branch (President), Legislative Branch (Congress), and the Judicial Branch (Supreme Court).
Now I’ll be using the United States political system given that is where I myself am from as well as George Lucas.
Now for the sake of not starting a complete political argument, I’ll be avoiding sensitive political commentary for the most part and will instead study government itself.
